Summer Wedding at Seville Estate by Basia McAuley

Seville Estate in the Yarra Valley won the 2019 Winery of the Year Award so this location had to be amazing.

This, coupled with the two so in-love humans choosing to be married at this Estate; I knew the day would be special. And it didn’t disappoint!

It was a perfect Summer’s day; hot, hazy and the love in the air was palpable, as was the hint of a few nerves - but only until their eyes met. And, of course the rest is wedded bliss history!

On this perfectly still and hazy morning... by Basia McAuley

The most important factor of photography is light. It’s all about the light, and sometimes, to be honest - the lack of it. This is the main reason why I try and schedule my outdoor photo session at times of low light - either just at or after sunrise (strong coffee in hand) or before sunset.

These times during the day create beautiful, even skin tones, inspiring colours in the sky and from time to time amazing back-light!

So, when planning this summer photo session, I had to consider that this amazing mum lives a long way away, has 3 babies and is also expecting twinnies! But, being the super-mum that she is, she insisted on booking a dawn photo session to capture the best light, and still managed to arrive 10 minutes early!

A little off topic but as we are all aware, Australia has suffered devastating bushfires and apart from all the devastation, it has resulted in many days where we are clouded in heavy smoke and hazy conditions.

Well this was one of these days!

The plan was to capture the colours and back light of the sunrise. Instead we were greeted with the absence of the sun, heavy haze and the perfect stillness in the morning air. Combining the low light and the hazy stillness of the morning with this Super Mumma and her babies - this session was a dream!

Introducing... My family! by Basia McAuley

My first ever blog is finally here. I really don’t know if I’m doing this right, or if there are rules surrounding blogs, but here it goes…

Why do you hire a photographer? To capture the precious moments with your family and to then print those moments into photo books, or wall art, or as family gifts, or just to watch it as a screen show on your computer - but mainly to look back at these memories and remember these fleeting, special moments.

So, let me start by sharing with you that every year I take my own kids out for a photo session - I use the kids loosely these days as they are almost adults, but they will always be my babies - much to their embarrassment! This has been an annual tradition with my family since my children were little (and a lot more pliable!). Now, they really don’t like being told what to do during our sessions - so these days I just let them take the lead and just go with the flow, and here are the results! And, I actually managed to get into a couple of piks - if you’re trying to find me, look for the shortest one!
